Bio

Gavin Crawford, is an award-winning actor and among Canada’s most sought-after comedic and dramatic performers. Originally from Alberta, Gavin made his first appearance at the Montreal Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in 1999. Since then he has performed at numerous showcases and festivals including: the Edinburgh Fringe Festival; the Vancouver International Comedy Festival; the HBO U.S. Comedy Arts Festival (Aspen, Colorado); and the Edmonton Comedy Festival. Gavin Was a MainStage cast member of Torontos Second City from 1998 – 2000.

Gavin appeared in 8 seasons of This Hour Has 22 Minutes to much critical acclaim both for his performance and writing.  He won several Gemini Awards over the years for his work on this show, as well as a WGC Award. Gavin co-wrote (with Kyle Tingley) and starred in THE GAVIN CRAWFORD SHOW that aired on the Comedy Network from 2000 to 2003, which garnered several Canadian Comedy Award nominations, and the 2003 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Actor. In 2008 he hosted CBC’s HOW DO YOU SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA?

On stage Gavin gavin has received  DORA Awards for his work in THE SITUATIONISTS, And A FEW BRITTLE LEAVES.  Recent stage work includes EVERY BRILLIANT THING, for Festival Players and a sold out run of FULLY COMMITTED in 2021 at the Grand Theatre in London.  Gavin will be reprising this role in 2025 for Theatre Aquarius.

Gavin Received a Gemini Award for a guest star role on THE MURDOCH MYSTERIES and has Gavin has guest starred on numerous television shows, Including 24 HOUR RENTAL (Super channel), BARONESS VON SKETCH SHOW (IFC) and CBC’S RUN THE BURBS.

Gavin starred opposite some of the most illustrious comedians on both the Anglophone and Francophone sides of our industry in FRENCH IMMERSION, shot in 2010 and released in 2011. He won the 2012 Canadian Comedy Award for Best Performance by a Male in Film for his role in this film.    Gavin won the 2015 ACTRA award for Best Performance for the  lead role of Adam in the 2015 indy feature TWO4ONE.

In 2013, his CBC special GAVIN CRAWFORD’S WILD WEST, was nominated for five 2014 Canadian Screen Awards and awarded the Canadian Screen  Award for Best Writing in a  Comedy Program to Gavin and writing partner Kyle Tingley.

Gavin can currently be heard as the host of CBC Radio One’s hit comedy quiz BECAUSE NEWS (co-created and written by Gavin) Now entering its 10th season, heard weekly on Podcast and National Radio.

Gavin’s latest solo  stand up show “Friend” “Like” #Me, has toured various theatres across Canada.

In 2024 Gavin released the  CBC Podcast “LET’S NOT BE KIDDING” about a comedian and his mothers journey through Alzheimers.  The podcast spent several weeks at Number one on the Podcast charts and has been named a 2024 WEBBY honouree for best writing.
