CARYS LEWIS is a Welsh-Canadian writer and director who splits her time between Canada and the UK. She most recently directed blocks on the BBC series DEATH IN PARADISE and the BBC series FATHER BROWN. Recent credits include the ScreenDog/Channel 4 series TRIAL BY JURY; a block on the Channel 4 series HOLLYOAKS; the BBC continuing medical drama CASUALTY; and the comedy webseries/pilot VANDULLZ for Little WanderShe also worked with Welsh National Opera as their Filmmaker in Residence where she created a trilogy of films: GRAM GIRLALT, and FLUORESCENCE (LFF 2019). Up next, Carys will direct a block for the BBC’s Death In Paradise.

Carys is currently developing her feature directorial debut, MITTY GOES WEST, with the support of Ffilm Cymru Wales. She co-wrote the feature film, HOW BLACK MOTHERS SAY I LOVE YOU, with playwright Trey Anthony, which advanced to the second round of the 2021 Sundance Screenwriters Lab. The film is supported by Telefilm Canada & Ffilm Cymru Wales.

Carys was nominated in 2019 for a BAFTA Cymru in the Short Film category for her BFI funded comedy, STUFFED. Her LGBTQ+ Welsh-language short, AFIACH, premiered at the Iris Prize Festival and was screened on BBC iplayer and S4C. Her award-winning documentary short, ERNEST, premiered at the Wales International Documentary Festival. In 2018, Carys collaborated with revolutionary filmmaker Erika Lust and created an experimental short film funded by Lust Films. She was selected for the BFI London Film Festival NETWORK cohort in 2019, BAFTA Crew 2019/2020, long-listed for the BBC Writer in Residence 2021 and is a proud graduate of George Brown Theatre School. www.caryslewis.com
