Jacob Lin 林鴻恩 is a queer Taiwanese-Canadian Designer, Writer and Producer based in Toronto. While he primarily works in Sound Design and sometimes Lighting Design. Jacob got his professional theatre start in his third year enrolled in York University’s Theatre Production and Design (B.FA) Program. Being asked to join Fu-Gen Asian Canadian Theatre’s Kitchen creators unit developing his play, “I Ran Home to Find Home”, under the supervision of David Yee this play would later be developed with Factory Theatre with mentor Nina Lee-Aquino, he was also asked by Nina to take part in their Foremen Program shortly after.

Not long after graduating, Jacob started his sound design journey assisting and working with renowned designers like Deanna Choi and John Gzowski. Within a couple months he had been given his first professional theatre contract for sound (Prodigal) and lighting (Ok, you can stop now).

Since then he has worked with many wonderful artists. Philip Akin, Peter Hinton-Davis, Mumbi Tyndyebwa-Otu and Jackie Maxwell just to name a few. Within a couple years into his career he had two Shaw seasons under his belt as well as dozens of shows across the country ranging from the Factory Studio to the Bluma Appel. He has worked with various companies; most notably, Soulpepper, Buddies in Bad Times, Tarragon Theatre, Cahoots Theatre, Crows Theatre, Soulpepper, Canadian Stage, Shaw Festival, Obsidian Theatre and Western Canada Theatre.

More recently, Jacob was nominated for a Pauline McGibbon Award for his work as an emerging Designer.
